Spaghetti Pie - Emily Bites (1)

Got dinner plans? Cancel them. You’re going to want to make this Spaghetti Pie instead. Trust me. This is cheesy, meaty, saucy pasta bliss. I love a good meaty tomato sauce and when it’s spooned over a thick, hearty wedge of pasta with four cheeses? I’m in comfort food heaven.

Spaghetti Pie - Emily Bites (2)

This Spaghetti Pie came together pretty quickly, so it’d make a great weeknight dinner. It makes six large servings and I was really satisfied after eating one. Serve it with a side salad or some veggies for a complete meal. It’s hard to believe all that cheese, meat and pasta can come together for just 380 calories or 9 Green, 9 Blue or 5 Purple Weight Watchers SmartPoints. Your family and friends won’t believe it either. I’m willing to bet that once you’ve made this crowd-pleaser, it’ll be requested again and again!

Spaghetti Pie

Prep Time: 30 minutes mins

Cook Time: 20 minutes mins

Total Time: 50 minutes mins

Calories: 380kcal

Meaty tomato sauce spooned over a thick, hearty wedge of pasta baked with four cheeses!

Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 10 oz dry wheat thin spaghetti
  • ¾ lb 95% lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 8 oz can tomato sauce
  • 15 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
  • 3 oz 1/3 less fat cream cheese, cut into cubes
  • 1/3 cup fat free cottage cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ cup shredded 2% Mozzarella cheese, divided

Instructions

  • Pre-heat the oven to 400. Lightly mist a deep dish 9” pie plate with cooking spray and set aside.

  • Cook spaghetti according to package instructions. As soon as spaghetti is done cooking (while it’s still hot), start step 4.

  • While the water is boiling for step one, bring a large skillet or saute pan over medium high heat and add the ground beef. Break the beef up with a large spoon or spatula and add the onion, salt and pepper. Cook until beef is browned and onions are cooked (about 5-7 minutes). Add garlic and cook for an additional minute. Stir in the tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, oregano and Italian Seasoning and reduce the heat to simmer for about 10 minutes.

  • When the pasta is done cooking, drain it and add the cream cheese cubes back into the empty pot. Cover the cream cheese cubes with the hot pasta and stir/toss to melt the cheese and coat the pasta. Add the cottage cheese, Parmesan and ¼ cup of the Mozzarella and toss until well combined. Add 2 cups of the meat sauce from step 3 and stir to coat. Continue to warm the additional sauce on low on the stove top.

  • Transfer the spaghetti mixture from the pot into the pie plate and press it down with a spatula and smooth the top. Sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup of Mozzarella over the top of the spaghetti pie and bake in the oven for 20 minutes until cooked through and cheese is bubbly. Let stand for a few minutes after cooking and cut the pie into 6 even wedges. Serve each wedge with ¼ cup of the meat sauce spooned over the top.

Emily, I made this recipe tonight and my family absolutely loved it! I used low-fat rather than ff cream cheese, cottage cheese and mozzarella, since that’s what I had. Also, I used an 11×7 pan, and spread the remaining meat-sauce on top, then sprinkled with the remaining cheese, then baked. We will make this recipe often. Thank you!

I have made something similar without the meat/sauce and it was good. So I only imagine how good this is going to be with the meat! So this can definitely be turned into a non-meat meal if anyone is wondering!!! I plan to make it this week and can’t wait for leftovers already!

We made this for dinner last night, and OH my gosh, it is SO good! I’ve never had baked spaghetti before, but I thought, surely this will be tasty since I love spaghetti + all of the ingredients. I underestimated! This is now up there on our favorite meals (and we try a LOT of internet recipes)! My husband asked if this could be a staple meal for us. It is pure cheesy goodness!

I just calculated the points value of this recipe using the nutrition info from myfitnesspal.com and the Points+ calculator on my phone. The points value of this dish actually came out to 10 points per serving. Still not bad for a main meal…but a little high for an everyday dinner when every point counts…

Hi Charis, the number of servings/serving size is underneath the recipe title in the recipe section of the post. In this case, one wedge is 1/6 of the pie 🙂

Wow, just WOW!! I made this two nights ago for dinner. Normally it’s hard for me to follow a recipe and not put my own spin on it, but I followed yours ALMOST to a T (added a teaspoon of sugar and a bit of basil to the sauce) and it received rave reviews from hubs and DD! First of all, the portions are huge! I wasn’t sure if one pie plate would be enough, but we each only had one serving and were stuffed. All three of us took a portion of the leftovers for lunch yesterday and it reheated fantastically! A couple quick notes….hubs likes lots of sauce, so having the ladle full of sauce on top was great for him. I’m kind of a medium sauce girl, so I added just a bit to the top of my portion. DD likes very little sauce so she ate hers plain….WIN WIN WIN! For the leftovers yesterday hubs was the only one who added sauce to his portion, DD and I took ours plain. I have to say I liked it equally as well without the additional sauce on top. A very satisfying and filling hot lunch on a cold snowy day! This one is going into the keeper file….THANKS!

Forgot to mention, I’m a lifetime WW member who still follows the “old” points system. Based on the nutritional info given, one serving was only 8 old points! We paired this will fresh roasted green beans and a large salad for a great meal that came in at only 9 points total….can’t beat that!!

Just wanted to stop by to let you know I make a vegetarian version of this with fake beef crumbles instead of ground beef, and it is delicious! My husband is a vegetarian but likes only traditionally unhealthy foods (no mushrooms or eggplant or tofu; only pasta, cheese, bread), so this is a nice way to make something that appeals to him that isn’t too bad for us! I’m a meat eater, and this recipe is so flavorful I don’t miss the meat at all. Only other change; I like tangy sauces and sometimes add in a dash of balsamic. Thanks so much for the recipe; I lost it and recently re-found it, I was so happy I texted my bff about it!

As soon as I found this recipe, I knew I would be making it soon. Tonight was the night and we were not disappointed! I did use a full pound of extra lean ground beef and feel like we might need a bit more meat sauce for the leftovers. Next time I’ll add more garlic (can there ever be too much garlic?) and a bit more spices too. This will be enjoyed again for sure! Thanks Emily!Spaghetti Pie - Emily Bites (73)
